Feb 24 Tamaen Steals the Show in the South Bay

The South Bay has always been “Little Tokyo” to LA natives. As locals know, the actual Little Tokyo in Downtown LA is far from being Japan Town despite its designation. These days, Little Tokyo is mostly overrun by hipster cafes and large chains that aren’t even Japanese. Little Osaka aka Sawtelle is no better. Basically there’s a handful of ramen places and suddenly the street was declared as “Little Osaka.”

The South Bay aka Torrence, Lomita has been the true place to go to for Japanese food. It’s no small feat to be a restaurant in the South Bay either. The competition is fierce and the folks know around there know what good Japanese food is. Enter, Tamaen Japanese BBQ! There are so many amazing Japanese BBQ restaurants in the South Bay, but Tamaen can hold its own even with the other local Japanese BBQ greats like Anjin, Tsuruhashi, and Manpuku.

Tamaen serves real Kobe beef, which can cost several hundred US dollars per pound, but it’s extremely difficult to find real Kobe in the United States! Out of 1.5 billion cattle in the world only about 3,000 cattle are certified as Kobe each year.
