Sonny's Hideaway
Wanna feel like you're in on a secret? Sonny's Hideaway is exactly what its name suggests- a hideaway. I don't go out to Highland Park enough to know the area well so I was very excited to get the opportunity to check out a place that I had never knew about before. If I had just been walking around, I definitely would not have known what the building was. So without further adieu, let's check out Sonny's Summer Menu!
(The inconspicuous front of Sonny's Hideaway. Thank you Jay for the photo! )How snazzy is this? I definitely did not think this was hidden inside. What a delightful surprise!Once I walked in, I was handed a plethora of alcohol. Sonny's Tiki Tuesday had some really interesting combinations. It took awhile just to decide what I wanted to drink!Drinks were seriously on point! No skimping out on good, quality ingredients.
Here's a close up of their Tiki Tuesday specials! I definitely recommend trying something off this menu!
After much consideration, I decided to go with the Cast Off made with Navy Strength Gin, Guyana Rum, Acqua Di Cedro, Herbsaint, Lime, Passion Fruit, and Coconut. Our Bartender Kelly was so informative and great. Here's another shot of the Cast Off being made. I love ordering any alcohol that 1) has passionfruit in it and 2) is lit on fire! So happy with my drink! Thank you Kelly!Doesn't this remind you of the Belle in Beauty and the Beast? Onto the food, which was prepared by Executive Chef Alexander Abdel-Monem.
First up was the Braised Meatballs made with Beef, Pork, Sweet Arrabiata Sauce, Parmesan Fondue, and Cipollini Onion. Grilled Octopus was next. I liked how visually appealing this dish was.
Falafel Fries made with Lemon Pepper Aioli and Cilantro. Fried Chicken Terrine made with Buffalo Romesco, Celery Salad, Almonds, and Gorgonzola. Housemade Merguez Sausage, Smoked Leeks, and Fine Herbs. Okay can we talk about the standout of the night? S'mores minus the graham cracker so you don't get full! Instead Sonny's version is made with Marshmallow Brûlée, Chocolate Crema, and Graham Cracker Crumble. Talk about fancy! Pinky's up for this dish!Ever wonder how it's like eating with professional food bloggers? Here's my behind the scenes for you! Featuring Amy from Backyard Bite and Jay from Jayeats.
Sonny's Hideaway's dishes put a fancy twist on old classic dishes. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to go back again and try different dishes. It was such a cool feeling eating there because it really felt like you were let in on a little secret that no one else but you and the other patrons knew about! Talk about feeling VIP!
Sonny's Hideaway is located at 5137 York Boulevard in Highland Park, CA 90042, (323)255-2000.
Big thanks to Executive Chef Alexander Abdel-Monem, Jenni Hwang, J. Kelly O'Hare, and Derek Lyons for inviting me to try the Sonny's experience.
