Previewing Jack in the Box's New Burger Using VR
Jack in the Box is known for making social media-savvy and all around cool commercials in the food world. So when they told me they wanted to me to be one of the first to try out their new Brewhouse Burger, I was more than happy to say yes. But when they told me I would be trying it via virtual reality, my answer was a resounding hell yes! Trying food via VR also brought up some concerns. Would I have to make lunch plans after? Would I really be eating food or would someone behind the scenes be fanning a Brewhouse Burger smell as I'm "tasting" it in my virtual reality world? Would the real Jack be there? I was a bit apprehensive as I stepped into the MWW Offices for my appointment with one of my good friends and fellow foodie, Kimlai Yingling. It's always good to experience something new with a friend. Kimlai is that friend that you can count on to bring the fun every time you see her! So what happened next? Here's the Facebook live video to see the behind the scenes of it all going down. I'll be releasing another edited version as well! We walked into a secluded room with two 'Brew Googles" waiting for us.
As I put the goggles on, I was sitting right in the middle of a brewhouse as the bartender pours me a beer. I look to the right and there's a man asking for another drink with his friend. I turn around and there are patrons in the bar eating and having a good time. I look to me left and there's a cute girl asking me if I come here often. It's good to be hit on even if it's in virtual reality! As I continue looking around 360 degrees at all the amazing detail the MWW and Jack in the Box team put into putting this short experience together for us, I see the previous bartender replaced with Jack, himself. He sets the brand new Brewhouse Burger in front of me and motions for me to be hush and be quiet. At that moment, I removed the goggles and saw that same burger sitting in front of me on the table.
How cool is that? Jack in the Box is the first in the food industry to use virtual reality for marketing. It sure beats the typical cycle where a restaurant or PR company sends out a press release and says please try it! Virtual reality is nothing new. It's been used most recently in the rollercoaster and pornography industry. I just never imagined myself using VR to taste food. Very cool and innovative! It's hard to stand out among the pack and stay relevant in this age of social media. Props to Jack in the Box for really going all out each time. So onto what matters most-the food! How did the new burger actually taste? Jack's Brewhouse Bacon Burger is supposed to be the perfect pairing of a burger and a cold beer. It consists of Jack's signature patty topped with grilled onions and hickory smoked bacon. Next, it’s layered with a decadent Porter Ale cheese sauce, freshly sliced tomatoes and hand-leafed lettuce. The burger is topped with a creamy pub sauce is generously spread on both sides of a toasted artisan potato bun. And let me tell you... it was good! I wasn't really that surprised though because if you are a fast food fan, you probably already know that Jack's makes solid food. Thumbs up from me especially when the new burger is paired with some Jack's curly fries.
The Jack's Brewhouse Burger will be available nationwide on Monday, July 18 and since it'll only be available for a limited time you should go try one for yourself A.S.A.P. Also, if you would like to get in on the virtual reality experience, Jack will be releasing the brewhouse VR video I was watching in the goggles on Monday along with the Brewhouse Burger on their Youtube channel. You'll be able to watch it at home with any VR headset or just watch the video without it just to get a better idea of what I was watching in my goggles!
