Privy Chase Lunar New Year

Privy Chase Lunar New Year

This past Lunar New Year was quite eventful. I was invited to the Privy Chase Chinese New Year Celebration Wine Dinner at Newport Seafood in Beverly Hills to mix, mingle, and most importantly... EAT with fellow movers and shakers in the Chinese and Chinese-American community in Los Angeles. IMG_0724Privy is an exclusive and curated private social network of Asian jet setters and influencers. And for Chinese New Year, they partnered with Chase Bank to sponsor a gorgeous and very delicious event. IMG_0725I walked the red carpet with fellow influential Chinese food writers Clarissa Wei of LA Weekly and Amy Duan of Chihuo. I clearly didn't get the wear red memo!

IMG_0764This is a picture of my 5th course. If you think this was a family-style meal, then you'd be wrong! This humongous lobster was my individual serving. If you've been to Newport Seafood, you know that the lobster is their signature dish. It's a must-order. This was my first time going to the Beverly Hills location. I've been to the San Gabriel location many times, but never did I get an entire lobster to myself. Executive Chef Henry Hua and Court of Master Sommelier Mary Thompson really went out of their way to make sure each dish was delectable.

1st course: Crispy Vegetable Eggrolls and Pork and Napa Cabbage Dumplings paired with a Louis Sipp Cremant d'Alsace.

2nd course: Crispy Soft Shelled Crab with Citrus Salad paired with a Grenaudiere Muscadet Sevre et Maine sur Lie.

3rd course: Steamed Black Cod paired with a Barboursville Vineyards, Viognier Reserve, Virginia.

4th course: Braised Duck with Pickled Vegetables paired with a Bonnerland, Pinot Noir, Monterey.

5th course: Newport House Lobster and Longevity Noodles paired with a Chateau Moulin Blanchon 2010 Haut Medoc Reserve.

6th course: Sweet Sesame Rice Balls with Sweet Ginger Soup paired with a Chateau Doisy-Daene Barsac 05. IMG_0748The entertainment for the night was also fabulous. Privy flew in crooner Christopher Yahng from Taipei just for the occasion. Wow, what a voice! The live band was great as well and Chris was like a Michael Buble with his suave style and voice. Such a nice guy too. We got to talking after he performed.

I had such a great time. I really felt like I started off my new year with a bang! Year of the Sheep, here I come! I'd like to thank Privy and Chase Bank for putting on the event and thinking I was cool enough to be invited. I met some really fun people in the community and that's always the best part of any event I attend. Good food and even better company! There was also some press of me attending the event so if you'd like to check it out, here's the link.
