Gourmet Korean Fusion Dumplings Debut at Smorgasburg
Smorgasburg LA has been quite the hit since opening this past summer and now after taking a brief break for the holidays they are set to come back swinging in full force this Sunday. All your favorite vendors will be back at it, but there’s also a few carefully hand-selected new vendors that will be making their debut at Smorg. The vendor I am most excited about is Workaholic! They are debuting their all-natural Mandoo Korean fusion dumplings. Here’s a video I made when I went behind the scenes in their kitchen to get a sneak peek for all you readers!
I was lucky enough to get a chance to preview the dishes Workaholic will be serving before they debut to the public. Spoiler alert: It was delicious! Workaholic’s dumplings use only 100% fresh high-quality ingredients like organic vegetables, Angus Beef, wild shrimp, just to name a few. Their dumplings are never frozen and do not use artificial coloring. The bright colored dumpling skin is made from 100% carrot, spinach, and beet juice!
Workaholic will be serving 5 different dumplings at Smorgasburg. Each brightly colored dumpling skin is not only for aesthetics, but it is also with those health conscious in mind. Each is made with a different fruit or vegetable and has a different filling.
Check out how much filling is inside! And that crispy skin bottom is perfection!
The flavors:
Shrimp dumpling with carrot juice dough
Spicy pork and kimchi flavor with beet juice dough
Beef Bulgogi with purple cabbage dough
Chicken with coconut juice dough
Veggie with spinach juice doughHere’s a peek of their menu. I really enjoyed the veggie dumpling in particular. I also loved that it was not only a vegetarian, but also a vegan option. Smorg is known for their great food, but not really for their vegetarian or vegan options. We don’t want to forget about those foodies! The absolute highlight of the dumplings is their crispy crust bottom. It crackles with each bite and gives great texture to the dumplings. But DO NOT forget about Workaholic’s secret pickled onion sauce recipe. The top secret sauce takes 2 whole weeks to make!
Don’t forget to try their Sikhye! It’s a traditional sweet Korean rice drink made with malt water and cooked rice. So refreshing!
Other new vendors joining Smorgasburg include: Brothecary, Kohk & Sahk, Little Llama Peruvian Tacos, Bukchae, Tamale Shoppe, Duck Duck Goose, Hummus Yummy. Smorgasburg officially reopens Sunday, Jan. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entrance is free. Address is 785 Bay St, Los Angeles, CA 90021. They’re open every Sunday!
