Late Night Must-Stop at Johnnie's Pastrami

Late Night Must-Stop at Johnnie's Pastrami

IMG_1465I am a night owl and a food writer and as a foodie, I expect my meals to taste amazing whether they’re at 1 pm or 1 am. I don’t feel as if I ever have to settle for a mediocre meal just cause I like to eat in the wee hours of the night. Johnnie’s Pastrami in Culver City is one of those restaurants that you can count on for late night grub. On Fridays and Saturdays, they’re open until 3:30 am! Of course, Johnnie's is open at normal hours of the day as well. You don't have to eat at strange hours like me to enjoy Johnnie's. IMG_1460Johnnie’s Pastrami was established in 1952 and has since become a Southern California landmark. The jukeboxes on the counters and booths are all original.IMG_1461Going to Johnnie’s is like going back in time. I’m a huge fan of the ABC show Once Upon a Time so this is totally like Grannie’s Diner in the show. Side note: The most recent season of OUAT is by far the worst season they’ve ever had by the way.IMG_1463I also love that there's the option of sitting outside by the fire and under heated lamps. So what did I eat?IMG_1490I ordered the pastrami, chili cheese fries, and the corned beef sandwich.

The pastrami was delicious. The sandwich was so large that I couldn't finish it. The spicy mustard sauce definitely gave it the extra kick. IMG_1492Here's a close up of the corned beef sandwich. I had the coleslaw put on the side since I didn't want it to get soggy if I didn't finish it on the spot. So so good!IMG_1491And of course how can you go to Johnnie's without ordering chili cheese fries with chopped onions on top? The crinkle cut fries have some great texture. I ended up finishing all the fries myself despite being so full. IMG_1497Did I mention that the pickles are mind-blowingly addicting? I had 3 refills of pickles just during the duration of my meal. IMG_1500Drink porn, say what? This is such a glorious picture of my root beer float. A sip for me, a sip for the table. It's not a proper diner experience, if you don't order a malt or a root beer float!

Portions are hearty and will leave you full. I definitely recommend going to Johnnie's for a bite for those in the area especially those that are looking for a place to grub late at night and don't want to settle for fast food. FYI, they are cash only. To check out their menu, head over to their website at http://www.johnniespastrami.com.

Johnnie's is located at 4017 South Sepulveda Blvd in Culver City, CA 90230. (310) 397.6654 Hours: Sunday thru Thursday 10am - 2.30am Friday and Saturday 10am - 3.30am
